He is a physical geographer with specific interest in landform and landscape processes in the coastal zones and within the tropical landscape.

Matthew achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography in 2012 while also completing his Master’s Degree in Geography in 2 2017. Both degrees were obtained at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife Nigeria. His Master’s thesis titled ‘Morphology and spatial distribution of inselbergs in a part of the Osun Drainage Basin Southwestern Nigeria’ was an attempt to assess the relationship between tropical geomorphic processes and underlying geology in evolution of residual landforms on a part of the Western Nigeria Basement Complex. His present interest is on ‘Morphodynamic processes and evolution of the Niger Delta shoreline’. Matthew was Graduate Assistant in physical geography (2014 –2017) and later Assistant Lecturer (2017 – 2019) in the Department of Geography, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

Research interests

Shoreline morphodynamics; Landscape evolution in the tropics; Tropical geomorphology.

PhD research

Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Abuja Nigeria

Supervision: Prof Steve Darby; Prof Craig Hutton

The present research is aimed at ensuring sustainable development and management within the Niger Delta ecological zone. It is within the global context of sustainable living at the land-sea boundary which is believed to be presently threatened as a result of a composite of factors acting together or in opposition to alter the dynamics of river discharge and sediment supply to the zones.
