Mrs Jan Dean is a lecturer in Nursing within Health Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Inspirational role models on clinical placements encourage our students to aspire to the highest possible standards of nursing care

Jan Dean registered as an adult nurse in 1981 and gained experience in Intensive Care nursing before working as a ward manager in an Acute Medical Unit. Having gained 16 years of clinical experience she moved to the University of Southampton to pursue her interest in education, particularly undergraduate education.

Jan has developed a particular interest in practice based learning on pre-registration programmes and is the University Coordinator for Community based placements for the Adult Field. This role also encompasses private, charitable and independent health care providers in the local area. Through liaison and collaborative working with partner organisations, clinical placements are established, developed and monitored to provide a wide range of learning environments to enable student nurses to gain experience and enhance their professional practice.
