Dr Ben Parker is a Lecturer within Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

I am currently a Lecturer in Statistics, in Mathematical Sciences, and the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI). Previously, I was working on an EPSRC grant at Queen Mary, University of London, entitled “Design of Experiments for Complex, Large Scale Networks".

Research interests

My research interests are in the methodology of the design of experiments; in particular I am interested in optimal design of experiments for experiments on networks. These interests include

  • designing experiments on social networks, and other experiments where experimental units are connected in some way. This includes networks where experimental units are connected physically, temporally, or by some other relation such as “friendship”.
  • improving measurement regimes and optimising protocols for data communication networks, particularly packet networks; for example how should we measure a communications network to get maximum information about the traffic within that network?
  • experimental design for simulations, including simulations of queues.
  • general statistical methodology for designing experiments, in particular optimal design.
