I am the Senior Research Fellow for the Research on Research (RoR) programme, which is an internal programme of work contracted through the NIHR, Evaluations Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC).
I joined the RoR team in 2012 and I am responsible for and provide oversight for the conduct, delivery and dissemination of the RoR programme. The RoR programme provides robust evidence to improve the efficiency of NIHR’s research management processes and to contribute to the wider evidence base on research management processes from commissioning of research through to dissemination. RoR’s portfolio of work includes two themed activities:
- Peer Review and Decision Making in Research Funding
- Post-Award Management of Funded Research
I have worked at NETSCC since 2008 in various roles including portfolio management of HTA funded research and the Technology Assessment Reviews (TARs) programme. I have experience of conducting research funded by the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme where I was seconded to the Wessex Institute for three years. I have held a number of research positions at the University of Southampton since 2002.
I began my research career at the Southampton Education School (Faculty of Social Sciences) where I was involved in a drug education programme on behalf of the Home Office. I later held a researcher’s position in the Faculty of Medicine where I was involved in a British Liver Trust project on Chronic Liver Disease. I then moved to the Faculty of Health Sciences where I was involved in the extended formulary independent nurse-prescribing project and the Cancer, Palliative and End of Life research group managing large datasets of Views of Informal Carers Evaluation of Services (VOICES) data for publication.
