Research interests

The shift from a greenhouse to icehouse world at the Eocene-Oligocene Transition (EOT; ~34 Ma) marks one of the most prominent tipping points in the Cenozoic towards the development of the modern climate system. The feedback processes instigated by this step-wise global cooling towards unipolar glaciation and the concomitant continental hydroclimatic response remains poorly constrained. Combining high resolution stable and radiogenic isotopes from foraminifera, fossil fish teeth and marine sediments, coupled with a variety of other geological and geochemical techniques, my project seeks to elucidate the operation of global climate teleconnections across the EOT. Extending this to other key climatic intervals throughout the Cenozoic, I aim to trace the evolution of global climate teleconnections in relation to the development of the modern climate system, providing further insight into global climate sensitivity to dynamic ice sheets.
