Research groups
Any research groups you belong to will automatically appear on your profile. Speak to your line manager if these are incorrect. Please do not raise a ticket in Ask HR.
Research interests
Add up to 5 research interests. The first 3 will appear in your staff profile next to your name. The full list will appear on your research page. Keep these brief and focus on the keywords people may use when searching for your work. Use a different line for each one.
In Pure (opens in a new tab), select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading 'Curriculum and research description', select 'Add profile information'. In the dropdown menu, select 'Research interests: use separate lines'.
Current research
Update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’ and then ‘Curriculum and research description - Current research’.
Describe your current research in 100 to 200 words. Write in the third person. Include broad key terms to help people discover your work, for example, “sustainability” or “fashion textiles”.
Research projects
Research Council funded projects will automatically appear here. The active project name is taken from the finance system.
Publications
Public outputs that list you as an author will appear here, once they’re validated by the ePrints Team. If you’re missing any outputs that you’ve added to Pure, they may be waiting for validation.
Supervision

Biography
Professor Sally Curtis studied Physiology with Pharmacology at the University of Southampton. She graduated in 1998 took up the post of lecturer and deputy programme lead on the (then) new widening participation in medicine programme, BM6, in 2002. Sally then worked on the BM6 programme alongside studying for a PhD in Health Sciences, investigating muscle co-activation in chronic neck pain.
Sally was the BM6 programme lead (2012-2020) and from its inception, co-designed and delivered the innovative BM6 curriculum, receiving the Vice Chancellor’s teaching excellence award in 2006. BM6 has the reputation as one of the most respected WP in medicine programmes in the UK, receiving national recognition and featuring in several national reports as an example of best practice. Sally received the National Teaching Fellow award on 2019 in recognition or her work in widening participation and student support.
Sally is now Deputy Head of School Education and is working with the Faculty of Medicine to deliver excellent student experience, with a focus on equity, beloning and social accountability.
Sally’s nationally recognised expertise has led to many invitations to act as an advisor for a number of institutions, organisations and advisory bodies, including UK and Scottish Governments and many Russell group universities. She provides advice on the design and development of curricula, programme design, admissions processes as well as undergraduate and postgraduate support.
Sally leads a research group in Medical Education with a particular focus on widening participation and the student experience at faculty, university, national and international level. Through her contributions to the University of Southampton she been closely involved in the development of the undergraduate WP policy, programme regulations, policies and packages supporting students from a range of underrepresented backgrounds.
