Current research

I am broadly interested in syntactic variation and change, and the consequences that phenomena like dialect variation and grammatical attrition have for models of generative grammar. I have worked on a number of topics in dialect syntax, including non-canonical questions, verb raising, demonstratives and negation.

As part of the Vulnerable Native Grammars project, I am currently investigating possible grammatical attrition of a number of syntactic features among speakers of Southern British English, German and Spanish who have migrated to places where a different language or dialect is spoken.

I am also particularly interested in developing appropriate methodologies to better understand syntactic variation.
