Dr Melanie Hodgkinson is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist within Psychologist at the University of Southampton.

'The person is not the problem, the problem is the problem' (White, 1988)

As well as working within the NHS with adults with learning disabilities, I work as a personal tutor on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I co-ordinate the Learning Disabilities teaching in the second year of the course, as well as supporting the neuropsychology and systemic modules. I am passionate about the rights of people who have a learning disability, as well as the need to increase research in the area. I have a keen interest in systemic ways of working and have undertaken further training in this area at the Tavistock Centre.

I trained to be a clinical psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire and since qualifying, in 2011, I have worked in local NHS services for adults with learning disabilities. I joined the university on a part time basis in 2016.
