About the Rooftop observatories

The two observatories in the roof of the Physics building (Building 46) hold a 14” Meade LX600 in the East Dome and a 12” Meade LX200 in the West Dome.

Final year undergraduates have access to these telescopes for their master’s projects. These telescopes allow the students to map the expansion of the Universe using Supernova explosions in distant galaxies, observe Exoplanet transits and take optical spectra.

The LX600 is the latest addition and allows students to see further into the cosmos. It features an onboard computer to find objects in the sky and a star lock system to auto-track over the course of the night.
