If you are coming to Southampton to study as part of a couple or a family we can offer you support in finding accommodation and may be able to offer you University owned accommodation

We currently have vacancies in 3 and 4 bedroom properties.

Can I apply if I don’t have a partner or dependents?

We are only able to offer this type of accommodation to students and staff members of the University of Southampton who are part of a couple or a family.

If you are an individual student without a partner or dependents you are not eligible for these flats or houses. Individual students without a partner or dependents can apply for one of our rooms. For more information go to room types.


Couples accommodation

In our halls of residences we have a small number of self-contained one bedroom flats suitable for couples.

Couples accommodation is available in City Gateway, Glen Eyre (Gower), and Mayflower.

We are able to offer one bedroom flats in City Gateway, Glen Eyre (Gower), and Mayflower to parents with one child (under twelve months of age).

Apply for couples accommodation

Family accommodation

We have a limited number of two bedroom flats available at City Gateway for families with one child.

The University own around 50 family houses located near Highfield Campus for use by students with families. They are offered on a 12 month Assured Shorthold Tenancy, usually from September to keep in line with course dates for most students. The houses are prioritised towards international (outside EU) students with families (often a partner and 1 or 2 children). Although we will accept applications from non-international students and staff, please note that others would be prioritised over these groups.

Although our stock of houses does differ in their layouts, number of bedrooms and included fixtures, they are mostly 3 bedroom properties near Hartley Avenue and Chamberlain Road. All are offered on a furnished basis, including beds, storage furniture, sofas and white goods, and include either on or off road parking. Rental prices for the houses are around £900/month although the exact figure will differ between properties. All rental payments must be made by Recurring Card Payment.

Once we have received your application, you may not receive any further communication if there are no properties available at the current time, so please do also search for alternative properties. We will inform you if there is a property available that matches your needs. Please note that accommodation in one of our houses is not guaranteed (even if you fulfil the criteria of the halls accommodation guarantee).

Enquire about family accommodation

Please include the names of all members of the family that you intend to live with you. We will also require the ages and gender of all children to make sure that we can offer you a suitable property.
