Winchester School of Art Saturday Club

Introduction

The Saturday Club offers local 13–16 year olds an insight into a broad range of art and design subjects. The club, a completely free activity for participants, is run over 9 months, totalling 20 Saturdays and including two visits to London. In addition, a Master Class will see an external specialist artist visit the club to present a workshop. The year culminates in a final exhibition in London, where members from Saturday Clubs across the country will meet to share their work and experiences.

Saturday Clubs benefit young people in many ways, including:

During their 20 Saturdays, students at Winchester School of Art’s club will have the opportunity to partake in workshops, sampling curriculum and facilities across our six BA programmes: Graphic Arts, Fashion Design, Games Design & Art, Fashion Marketing with Management, Fine Art and Textile Design. Workshops will be held by our own experienced Tutors and Technicians, supported by Student Ambassadors, who are current students at WSA.

Schedule & Format

Saturdays have been carefully selected to work around as many half-terms and holidays as possible and each Saturday Club will run between 1000-1300. You will be provided with all the equipment and tools required for each Saturday and won’t need to bring anything. The Saturday's begin in October and run through to June of the next year.

In October and November students will produce a self-portrait, which they will take to London and show at an exhibition, alongside work from other Saturday Clubs across the country. In February, we arrange for a Masterclass with a local creative professional, either here at WSA or off-site at their studio/place of work. In May, students will work toward producing a final piece, which will then be shown at a final exhibition and celebration of the year’s work in London.

Curriculum & Workshops

Our curriculum will feature workshops in each of our six undergraduate BA programmes: Graphic Arts, Fashion Design, Games Design & Art, Fashion Marketing with Management, Fine Art and Textile Design.

Previous workshops have included 3D self portraits, print making, giant knitting, character and game play design, experimental clay, graphic design and book making, fashion styling and digital skills workshops.

Each of the workshops will be taught by our experienced tutors in studios here at Winchester School of Art, making use of our industry equipment, facilities, hardware and software.
