Rodrigo Ortiz Vazquez is a Research Fellow in Archaeology at the University of Southampton.

I have been lucky enough to work in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Europe, North America, Oceania and Antarctica.

I completed my undergraduate in 2013 in Mexico City at the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH) focusing on Middle Eastern studies. In 2013, I did an MA in maritime archaeology at the University of Southampton specialising on 4D modelling of shipwrecks and the study of site formation processes. I continued this research line during my PhD on numerous case studies throughout the UK.

I am a specialist in maritime archaeology, with a particular interest in the study of shipwrecks as well as port and harbour development. I have expertise in surveying with a wide range of remote sensing techniques to record archaeological sites and maritime heritage in particular.

My current position as a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton combines my previous experience to record endangered archaeology in the MENA region for the MarEA Project.

In the past five years, I have worked in close collaboration with both the academic and commercial archaeology sectors in England, Scotland and Wales. This has allowed me to have an active participation with the Hazardous Project, Rooswijk 1740 Project, Invincible 1744 Project and MSDS Marine as a diver and a 3D specialist.
