Money matters

As a postgraduate student you will need to pay annual tuition fees to the University for your programme of study. You may be able to apply for funding to help you cover your costs - check the ‘More postgraduate funding options’ link and the 'Funding' tab further down this page for more information.

When planning your finances, you will also need to consider other expenses such as living costs, accommodation fees and study materials. Visit the University’s postgraduate fees and funding page for more information.

Postgraduate Loans (PGL) for Master's study

Postgraduate loans are now available for UK and EU students studying taught and research masters programmes.

These loans are worth up to £10,280 per student.

Scholarships

Faculty of Arts & Humanities International Postgraduate Taught Merit Scholarship: 2020/21

For all new Faculty of Arts & Humanities postgraduate taught international students [non-EU/UK] enrolling in Sept 2020. Those students with a 1st class honours at undergraduate level, or equivalent qualification accepted by the university, will be awarded an automatic £3,000 scholarship.

If you are successful in gaining a place with us, this PGT Scholarship will mean an automatic reduction in your tuition fees. When we send your offer letter to you, we will also write to you to let you know you are eligible for one of these Scholarships. Providing you accept our offer of a place and meet all the conditions of your offer, we will confirm your £3,000 Scholarship before the start of the academic year in September 2020.

You can complete an online University application for a place on a programme at any time.

A wide range of scholarships are available to aid your studies at the University of Southampton. The University itself offers a number of scholarships for individual courses and there are several agencies offering funds to help study in the UK.
