The University of Southampton

We've organised the way that we allocate rooms in our halls of residence, in order to create a living environment in which residents can keep themselves COVID-secure.

Keeping our halls of residence safe

Your safety is our top priority and some of the additional measures we have implemented include:

If someone in your hall of residence gets COVID-19

When you live in your halls of residence, you and the other students in your flat become a ‘household’. If someone in your flat gets ill with COVID-19 or has symptoms, everyone in the household must isolate and follow NHS guidelines. We will facilitate continued access and ongoing support including delivery of food parcels, delivery of post and parcels and access to a laundry service etc during any period of isolation.

You and your flatmates  constitute a ‘household’. In halls of residence, a household is considered to be those students living in the same flat who you share a kitchen and/or bathroom with - not a floor or block.

You are expected to conform with Government and University guidelines for socialising with others outside your household at all times.
All students are invited to register for the University’s Covid-19 Testing Programme, which will allow you to take a simple saliva test for coronavirus.  The programme offers regular testing throughout the term and into the national Test and Trace service.

Wi-fi in halls of residence

All our halls of residence have wi-fi. But we recommend that you use an ethernet cable to connect to our network as this is more reliable for your academic activities, especially when viewing video. We’ll give you instructions on how to do this.
