- Understand the theoretical basis of index numbers and price statistics and their history of development
- Understand the practical techniques used to address challenging aspects of the subject
- Understand the practices used in index number calculations, particularly for consumer price indices

- The calculation of simple index numbers and their application
- Price, quantity and value
- Choice of index number formula
- Deflation and constant price
- The development of inflation measurement
