Module Aims

The aims of the module are: • To describe and contrast the battery materials from selected battery technologies • To describe the methods used to characterise their morphology, structure, composition

Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • have acquired a basic understanding of the different battery materials
  • have acquired a basic understanding of the key parameters used to characterise battery materials
  • be able to select appropriate analytical and physical methods to characterise battery materials

Syllabus

The module will develop the following topics: • Consideration of materials used in modern secondary battery technologies • Understanding of key material properties which affect battery performance and figures of merit • A review of physical methods used to characterise battery materials, e.g. diffraction techniques, electron microscopy techniques, etc…

Special Features

This module provides a unique opportunity to explore the characterisation methods used to investigate and characterise the different materials found in battery technologies.
