Module overview

The curriculum for the MSc Public Health is informed by the public health standards of the Faculty of Public Health and the UK Public Health Register. It is recognised by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education. These standards encompass the competencies, knowledge, understanding, values and attitudes required for the ethical effective practice in all the areas of public health. The standards are consistent with the competencies required for service and consultancy around the Sustainable Development Goals in global health. This MSc has global relevance to developing relevant professional and transferable competences in evidence-based public health practice. These are developed through this module, and applied in other core and optional modules, thereby supporting students to get the best out of their MSc.

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching and learning strategies will include: tutorials, workshops, and practice based learning. The emphasis will be on student centred learning in which you will be supported by a wide range of resources. Staff and colleagues will support your professional learning.

Assessment

Assessment strategy

The assessment includes both formative and summative elements. The formative assessment includes: i) group presentations on study skills and ii) individual audio reflections on skills development. The summative assessment comprises three reflective accounts that are at the end of semester 1, semester 2 and the dissertation period. The written assignments are marked on a pass/fail basis. All three written assignments must be passed to pass the module.

If you have failed a reflection, you will have the opportunity to resubmit (refer) your work within a specified date. You must achieve a pass mark in all referred components to pass this module.
