Mr Ian Campton is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Mathematics Education within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton. Since joining the school in 2011, the majority of Ian’s work has been within Initial Teacher Training and the various programmes within it, including the PGCE and Troops to Teachers. Prior to this, Ian spent twenty years teaching in a variety of rural and inner-city Primary and Junior schools in Staffordshire and Hampshire, both as a teacher and an assistant headteacher. For the majority of these schools, he was the mathematics coordinator and, through his work in the classroom and in supporting colleagues, he continued to develop an interest in the teaching and learning of mathematics within primary education. Ultimately this lead him into research and his current role at the university.
