Mr Ian Campton BEd (Hons) MSc (Ed)
Senior Teaching Fellow, Programme Director PGCE (Primary)

Mr Ian Campton is a Senior Teaching Fellow within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.
Before joining Southampton Education School, Ian was a primary school teacher for twenty years, teaching in a variety of primary and junior schools in Staffordshire, Portsmouth and Hampshire. Throughout this time, he maintained an interest in the teaching and learning of mathematics and was the mathematics co-ordinator in many of the schools in which he taught. As a senior leader, he was able to gain experience of school leadership and management. Having responsibilities for assessment and curriculum development provided a wealth of experience in school improvement. Consequently, he developed and maintained an interest in curriculum design and assessment.
Much of Ian’s work within the Education School centres on Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and primary mathematics education. He is particularly interested in the methodologies of educating pre-service teachers and the ways in which their development is supported in becoming effective primary mathematics teachers.
