Ms Julie Reynolds is a Senior Teaching Fellow within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.

Julie Reynolds qualified as a primary teacher in 1988 with a BEd (hons) in biological sciences and worked in Hampshire and Southampton schools for the next 19 years as a class teacher, subject lead and head of year. She began working at the University of Southampton in 2008, teaching modules on a foundation degree programme, FdA Working with Children, whilst still teaching in schools. She also taught science on the BA (QTS) Education and Training. In 2012, she was appointed as a Senior Teaching Fellow on the Primary PGCE.

Julie is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and she is currently studying for a MSc in Teacher Education to further her own development and understanding of best practice in ITE.

Julie is the Associate Director for the Primary PGCE. She is also the strategic lead on student placements and works with individual and groups of schools to explore ways of working in partnership within the changing landscape of education.

Julie is a Professional Tutor on the PGCE and UG programmes, supporting students undertaking their first degree or following both University-Led and School Direct PGCE routes into teaching professionally, pastorally, and academically.

She is privileged to have lead groups of Primary and Secondary PGCE students to Nakuru in Kenya for a number of years to give trainees an insight into another country’s education system and the opportunity to teach some of the most vulnerable children in areas of extreme poverty.

In the summer of 2018. she accompanied a group of students to St. Paul’s school in Gorakhpur, India.

Julie is the lead tutor for science on the Primary PGCE. She also delivers a primary science session to Secondary PGCE trainees and design and technology to primary trainees. Julie encourages trainees to be advocates for science in their placement and employing schools.

Julie leads and teaches on an UG module, Researching Learning, which all BSc Education and Education/Psychology students undertake in their first year of the programme.
