Ms Kate Freeth BA, PGCE
Director of Initial Teacher Education , Lead Tutor for English PGCE

Ms Kate Freeth is Director of Initial Teacher Education and Lead Tutor for English in the Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton.
I believe in Education for all. By treating everyone as an individual, pupils and teachers reach their full potential.
Kate holds a BA Honours degree in English with History and a PGCE in English with Drama. She teaches on the Secondary English PGCE course, and specialises in the areas of literacy and learning and Special Educational Needs. Other areas of interest are the use of Drama in English and the use of assessment techniques to aid learning in the English classroom.
Kate qualified as a Secondary English Teacher in 1993 and taught for 12 years in the Southampton and Bournemouth areas of the South Coast. During this time Kate had many roles within a variety of schools. She was a Head of Department, a deputy Head of Year and she ran the Media Studies GCSE course as well as teaching English to the 11-18 age range.
Kate strongly believes in ‘education for all’ and has spent all her working life exploring ways to include children in their own education. While working as a Teacher, she spent much of her time trying to motivate disaffected pupils and is now interested in personalised and individualised learning. This she incorporates in to the taught elements of the PGCE as well as in the English classroom.
