Dr Anne Stringfellow is Senior Research Fellow within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Anne is an environmental scientist (PhD Southampton University) with research interests in the waste environment, ranging from contaminant transport in landfills and leachate containment systems, through to mass and energy footprinting and the future development of waste management infrastructure. Together with staff at the National Oceanography Centre, she is working on modelling transport of nanoparticles through clay liner materials. Her current work also includes determination of inputs of particulate organic matter in riverine sediments through sediment fingerprinting.

Research interests

  • Contaminant transport
  • Waste management

Research projects include:

  • 'Dissolved and solid phase organic carbon influences on the sorption/desorption of hydrophobic organic contaminants in clay mineral geological layers' (EPSRC EP/G016305/1)
  • 'Science and Strategies for the long-term management and remediation of landfills' (EPSRC EP/E041965/1)
  • 'Long term dynamics of interdependent infrastructure systems' (EPSRC EP/101344X/1)
  • 'Evaluation of Mechanical Heat Treatment Technologies in Waste Management' (Funded by Defra)
  • 'Ecological impacts of fine sediments in aquatic ecosystems' (Funded by Defra)
