This project aims to support aerospace industries in reducing product development time and cost. I-VISION will enable designers and engineers to visualise, manipulate and interact with the digital mock up in an intelligent manner allowing for decisions to be taken very early in the design process and thus helping to reduce costly design errors. Advanced Human Factors methods will be used to analyse the activities of the pilot and co-pilot during various phases of flight and operating conditions in a VR-based aircraft cockpit.
The i-VISION project aims to support the design and validation of aircraft cockpits, through the exploitation of knowledge-based immersive virtual reality technologies. During the development of the i-VISION platform, it would be of primary focus to facilitate the knowledge existing in several individual components of the cockpit, using a semantic approach for developing the virtual environment. A range of simulation issues will be addressed including:
The project working cycle would be based on a closed loop between the human pilot, the modern virtual aircraft cockpit interfaces and the operating conditions.
