Suzanne Reimer is interested in aspects of design, creativity, knowledge and innovation, including the gendering of creativity and design labour; and in the role of design in commodity networks. She has on-going interests in the furniture industry; modernism and design; and moto-mobilities.

Dr Suzanne Reimer is currently Associate Professor in Human Geography. She has been a member of staff in Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton since 2004.

PhD Geography (Cantab)

  • Design, creativity and knowledge
  • Design and commodity networks
  • Cultures of consumption; ethical issues in consumption
  • Local labour market dynamics, changing gender divisions of labour and notions of employment 'risk'


Research projects

  • 2006-2008 The geography of commercial design: a comparison of London and the regions (ESRC) (with Peter Sunley and Steven Pinch)
  • 2005-2006 Design consultancy firms and the geography of the UK design industry (University of Southampton Annual Grant Competition)
  • 1997-2001 For home consumption: commodity chains in the household furnishings industry (ESRC and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada).

Dr Reimer has been a member of the International Advisory Board for Home Cultures since the journal's inception in 2004
