Doctor Sally Sampson is a Lecturer in Respiratory Physiology within Healthcare Science at the University of Southampton.

Following a career as a respiratory physiologist in clinical and research positions covering both paediatric and adult testing, Sally joined Health Sciences in 2015, whilst maintaining a clinical role at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

I am University Placement Coordinator for Healthcare Science (Clinical Physiology), organizing placements for both Cardiac and Respiratory and Sleep students in all years, and developing placement capacity. In addition, I am a personal tutor to students in Years 1,2 and 3 and help  interview prospective students on selection days. I am an external examiner for the Healthcare Science degree programme at St George’s, University of London.

I am the respiratory and sleep lecturer on the Year 1 HPRS 1023 and HPRS 1024 modules (Scientific Basis of Cardiovascular and Respiratory and Sleep Parts 1 and 2):

HPRS 1023: Role of Respiratory and Sleep physiologists, introduction to respiratory anatomy and physiology, introduction to respiratory function testing (spirometry), introduction to normal sleep and introduction to sleep monitoring (pulse oximetry)

HPRS 1024: Reference values, practical spirometry testing, spot check oximetry, spirometry interpretation, sleep disorders

In addition I am module lead for Year 2 HPRS 2023 (Respiratory and Sleep Physiology) and HPRS 2020 (Work Based Training 2 Respiratory and Sleep) and for Year 3 HPRS 3019 (Advanced Respiratory and Sleep Physiology) and HPRS 3022 (Work Based Training 3 Respiratory and Sleep)
