Dr Stamatina Liosi BA, LLM, PhD
Research Fellow

Dr Stamatina Liosi completed her PhD at the University of Kent, in Canterbury, with a thesis on the Philosophy of Human and Socioeconomic Rights, before undertaking a Postdoc in Law and Bioethics at UCL Cancer Institute completed in 2020, and then a Postdoc in Law and Ethics in Law School at the University of Hull completed in 2021. Stamatina has also worked as Teaching Associate at the Centre of Ethics in Medicine, in Bristol Medical School. She joined Southampton Law School in 2021.
Stamatina's research extends from the Philosophy of Human and Socioeconomic Rights to International Organisations, the WHO, and the Human Right to Health. She has worked on Ethics, Medical Law and Ethics, Bioethics, Data Governance, and the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications of Genetic and Genomic Research for Individuals, Families and Communities Program (ELSI). She has written about Children's Rights, the Health Care of Vulnerable Populations, the moral and legal concepts of Human Dignity, Autonomy, Informed Consent, and Trustworthiness, as well as our Duties to the Dead.
Since 2020, Stamatina has collaborated with the Personal Genome Project (PGP) Harvard as member of the PGP UK. She has, also, been member of the UCL Cross-faculty Assay Development Team set up to assess alternative technologies to the COVID-19 technology used by Public Health England (PHE), and has, further, collaborated with the Institute of Population Health at King's College London on COVID-19 ethical and legal standards to be set as guidelines to the Secretariat of the WHO. Stamatina has, further, worked in Clinical Ethics Committees providing training for clinicians-surgeons in times of crisis. Finally, Stamatina has interest in Social Policy and Political Theory.
