Ms Linda Turner is Student Selected Unit Coordinator Years 1 and 2 BM5 within Medicine at the University of Southampton.
Linda Turner is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Medical Education and coordinates the Student Selected Units in Years 1 & 2. She was appointed to the Faculty of Medicine in 2000 to assist with the development of the pioneer Widening Access to Medicine BM6 Programme. Previously she taught in the Further & Adult Education Sector coordinating Science Access Programmes and teaching English Literature & Language to post 16 students.
Her key interests are innovation in teaching and learning including student centred learning, small group teaching and reading and writing processes. She is also interested in widening access to medicine, community engagement and health, medical humanities and narrative based medicine.
She manages the coordination and development of the Student Selected Units in years 1 & 2 which includes Health Improvement, Medical Humanities, Appraising Medical Evidence and Peer Teaching. She designed and implemented the Health Improvement and Medical Humanities units and teaches an option in Narrative Writing and Medicine.
She has presented papers and posters nationally and internationally on Widening Access to Medicine and Student Selected Units including the European Access Network Association 2006, Association of Medical Education 2008, Association of Medical Humanities 2011. She achieved a University Teaching Award in 2006
