Development of a new characterisation technology for a problematic waste stream

Published: 6 October 2021
Case study A

Scenario – An SME is developing an emerging technology for a problematic waste stream found on a nuclear site. Currently the technology readiness level of the method is TRL3, with proof of concept testing completed at the SMEs site.

How can EXACT help?

  • Provision of an established, flexible test environment and supporting infrastructure able to accommodate radioactive, nuclear relevant test materials.
  • Demonstration of technology to key stakeholders and investors.
  • Access to a comprehensive range of benchmark radio- and chemical-analytical techniques for validation and performance testing.
  • Access to staff expertise in radioanalytical research and development to support testing.
  • Transition of technology from TRL3 to TRL6 and reduction of risk associated with subsequent on-site testing on a nuclear site (“stepping stone to nuclear site trials”).
