I am a postgraduate research student under the guidance of Dr Glen Wheeler (MBA), Professor Colin Brownlee (MBA), and Professor Toby Tyrell (University of Southampton). I am investigating the physiological differences (incl. proteomics, EM) between coccolithophorid algae during their two distinct life cycle stages (haploid and diploid). Part of my project is a Southern Ocean research cruise, where I will obtain coccolithophore samples and analyse the distribution of their life cycle stages in the environment.

I graduated from University of Plymouth with a 1st in BSc (Hons) Marine Biology & Oceanography. My thesis focused on the evolution and development of the nervous system in ctenophores and was supervised by Dr Pawel Burkhardt from the Sars Centre for Marine Molecular Biology in Norway. Before starting my PhD, I was a visiting researcher at the Derriford Research Facility in Plymouth, investigating novel antimicrobials produced by bacteria living within deep-sea sponges.
