Ms Poppy Diver is a postgraduate research student within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton. She is enrolled on the INSPIRE DTP and based at the Marine Biological Association, Plymouth.
I am interested in the ecology of marine fungi and their role in biogeochemical processes. My primary research aims are to characterise the key functional traits of marine fungi and to develop a mechanistic basis for their incorporation into plankton community models. I will employ allometric and biomolecular analyses to fungal laboratory cultures and field samples and draw comparisons with other functionally related plankton groups.
Previous experience:
2019 – 2020: Research Assistant, APPELS project (A Probe of the Periodic Elements for Life in the Sea), Ocean Biogeochemistry group, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Oxford
2015 – 2019: MEarthSci Earth Sciences, University of Oxford
Master’s thesis: The role of trace metals in the niche differentiation of ammonia oxidising bacteria & archaea
