Miss Sarah Breimann is a postgraduate research student within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

BSc Marine Biology
MSc Applied Marine and Fisheries Ecology

I graduated in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology and in November 2014 with an MSc in Applied Marine and Fisheries Ecology, both undertaken at the University of Aberdeen. I have been involved in multiple projects at the North Atlantic Fisheries College (Shetland) and have been active in conservation efforts with the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation (Greece). Most recently I was employed as a scientific researcher at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany, where I worked within the Benthic Ecology working group.

Research interests

Masters research: Fatty Acid and Stable Isotope Analysis of a Deep-sea Fish from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge - Antimora rostrata (Blue Hake).

Past projects include:

The mapping of Posidonia oceanica, coralligene and marine mammal activity in the areas around Samos Island. Also the mapping of fossilised structures within the waters of Sigri Bay - Lesvos Island.

Heat effects on heart rate for Mytilus edule and the transgenerational effect of heat stress on Balanus improvisus both carried out within the KIB (Kiel Indoor Benthocosms).

Parasite identification and quantification of Cerastoderma edule and a Network analysis of the benthic ecosystem with a focus on current and future temperature regimes. Both projects were carried out at the KOB (Kiel Outdoor Benthocosms).

Research project: Fisheries trawling effects on the structure and functioning of marine sediment microorganisms
