About

Nguyen Tan Viet Tuyen is a New Frontiers Fellow in AI at University of Southampton and a Visiting Research Fellow at King's College London. His research centres around machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and their applications to robot learning from and for human interactions.

Prior to joining the University of Southampton, Tuyen was working on the EPSRC project “LISI - Learning to Imitate Social Interaction” as a Research Associate at King’s College London. Tuyen obtained a PhD degree in Information Science, majoring in Robotics, at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, where he was working on the H2020 project “CARESSES - Culture Aware Robots and Environmental Sensor Systems for Elderly Support” as a Research Assistant.

Tuyen was an organizer and co-chair of the special session on “Non-verbal Communication Skills in Humans and Robots,” IEEE RO-MAN 2022. Recently, he has served as a program member of IEEE VR 2024 Workshop on “Multi-modal Affective and Social Behavior Analysis and Synthesis in Extended Reality” and ACM ICMI 2023 Workshop on “Generation and Evaluation of Non-verbal Behaviour for Embodied Agents”. He has served as regular reviewers of major IEEE/ACM conferences, journals related to machine learning and robotics.
