About
I research and teach how music, media, and digital technologies shape people’s cultural lives.
I am a Lecturer in Digital Humanities, specialising in online music cultures. My work aims to understand how people engage with music platforms as a form of creative, cultural participation.
My books are How Music Empowers: Listening to Modern Rap and Metal and Digital Flows: Online Hip Hop Music and Culture. I co-founded the Music and Online Cultures Research Network, which supports an international community of scholars. Beyond music, my research also engages with digital communities, data ethics, and platform studies, plus emerging interests in video game studies and neurodiversity. My teaching brings humanities thinking into inclusive, inquiry-based learning environments that help students develop critical and creative skills. I am a Fellow of Advance HE.
I originally trained as a musicologist focusing on popular music listening and embodiment. Before I joined Southampton, I held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowship at University College Cork (2020-2022) and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Bristol (2022-2024).
