Upcoming events

We at Southampton’s Centre for Music for Music Education and Social Justice are excited to be hosting a new AHRC Hub for Public Engagement with Music Research. The remit of our work is to provide training and mentoring and fund four ‘spoke’ projects that bring together researchers and non-academic music organisations to co-create and deliver impactful public engagement projects focused on social change.

  • Drop in Q&A sessions

Come along to an informal video chat with the Project Team with any questions that you have!

    Drop-ins take place from 10:00 to 11:00 on December 13 and 20, and January 3 and 10.

Please email CMESJ_MusicPEHub@soton.ac.uk for the MS Teams link and a time slot.

Public Engagement Masterclasses

Part of our remit as the AHRC Hub for Public Engagement with Music Research is to provide public engagement with research training for academics, students, musicians, educators and colleagues working in music organisations.

We are delighted to offer a series of half-day online masterclasses led by colleagues from the University of Southampton Public Engagement with Research Unit (PERu), which will introduce topics including project planning, effective communication strategies, logistics, ethics and evaluation. We encourage participants to attend all four sessions wherever possible. If you have missed any, we have uploaded recordings to our playlist on YouTube.

Community Building Networking Events

In November and December, we’re touring Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland to promote our funding scheme. Our community networking events will include activities for potential academic and non-academic collaborators. We welcome academics, music organisations, charities and/or freelancers with an interest in applying for our spoke project funding (£75k to 100k for each project).

The events, led by Erin Johnson-Williams, Lisa Tregale, and Ben Oliver, will include refreshments. For accessibility needs or stipends towards travel, please contact us.
