Anita is Lecturer in Criminology within the Department of Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Southampton.

 

 

 

Anita joined Southampton in 2015, after one year lecturing at the University of Wolverhampton. She completed her PhD at the School of International Studies, University of Trento (Italy) in 2014. During her PhD, she has been a visiting scholar at VU Amsterdam and Rutgers University, and a visiting research student at Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science, UCL. Anita has a background in law: she holds an LLM (cum laude) from the University of Trento with a dissertation in applied criminology.

Anita is currently leading research projects on Internet-faciltated wildlife trafficking (ESRC New Investigator Grant) and health frauds.

Anita welcome enquiries about potential PhD supervision in the following areas:

- Cybercrimes (incl. Internet-facilitated trafficking activities)
- Organised crime groups
- Health frauds
- The propagation of fake/fraudulent information online
- Environmental crimes

Research interests

Cybercrimes, serious and organised crime, environmental crime, fraudolent alternative medicine, global and comparative criminology.

Anita is the Departmental seminar coordinator and undergraduate dissertations coordinator. She is the co-editor of the European Review of organised Crime and an executive member of the ECPR Standing Group on Organised Crime.

Anita teaches criminological theories and global criminology to undergraduate students, and cybercrimes to postgraduate students. She is a recurrent guest lecturer on cybercrimes and serious and organised crime.

In 2016, Anita won a SAGE Junior Faculty Professional Development Teaching Award.
