I think the department we’ve got here in Politics and International Relations is fantastic. They are very welcoming, they’ve got a great breadth of expert knowledge, and I think they are going from strength to strength in terms of the experts that are joining the team.

I’ve absolutely loved my time here, I’ve made some great friends, it’s a brilliant campus, had brilliant supervision support from all the academic team and now I guess I’ve become one of them!

Anthropology, and the University as a whole, offers a great deal of choice in terms of the different modules you can study, which helped broaden my knowledge base

The MSc Gerontology part-time taught course offered that flexibility, and a breadth of study, to stimulate and challenge my 'medical model' background.

I loved the diversity; you can choose from so many different modules. The lecturers were great and really supportive.

My experiences of working on a multi-disciplinary course gave me a great advantage when applying, and I have since managed to secure funding for the doctoral programme. I am looking forward to furthering my studies at Southampton and after this I hope to continue in the academic field.

Signing off, I wish to stress that my Doctoral studies and achievements are an amalgam of inspiration, challenge, encouragement from fantastic academic staff and colleagues and a great working environment. For students thinking of undertaking postgraduate and/or Doctoral studies in Economics at the University of Southampton, I would simply say “go for it, you will love it!

Taking a couple of modules outside the course allowed me to successfully pursue a teaching career. I will be beginning a primary PGCE in September.

The academic faculty has been very supportive and friendly and always willing to advise and help students.

Studying at Southampton pushed me out of my comfort zone and it did push me to achieve a first class honours, something I thought was impossible after my first year.

Sociology is something that needs to be taught at an earlier age - it opens up the mind to other subjects. My interest stemmed from A level and I have never looked back.

SUPA events offer a really good connection between students and the work place and on top of what the University already offers for careers support.

I’ve enjoyed the lifestyle at the University. The teaching has been great, we’ve had great support through everything; which is a must when doing a course like Economics.

I was part of the university taekwondo club for my whole three years and in that time it developed to become like a new family. Without realising it societies train you to manage your time and develop a good work-life balance.

My ability to work hard, motivate myself, assimilate information, analyse, criticise and formulate arguments has developed enormously. But more than that, I have achieved a renewed confidence and direction in my life.

A foundation in Economics is useful and having the joint honours of Finance really helped push me over the edge as it gave me exposure to a broader range of subjects, which employers found attractive.

Southampton stood out for me, as the course not only seemed to touch on all the areas that had first sparked my interest in Anthropology, but also provided the opportunity to learn about other areas, such as Criminology and Sociology.

The opportunities at the University of Southampton are fantastic. Most importantly the University increased my confidence which helped me get a place on a graduate scheme.

My degree and dissertation (on prolific offenders) helped me considerably; without that experience I doubt I would have achieved my job in a probation trust

Southampton was immediately one of my favourite choices because its Economics Department is one of the top 10 in the UK.

Everyone is so nice. I have really enjoyed my course, especially the development economics module which had great lecturers and led me on to my dissertation topic.

I appreciate the fact that, in many modules, we have the chance to practise our transferable skills.
