Research project: Your Space! Siblings and Friends project

Currently Active:
Yes

This project was part of the ESRC Timescapes, the first major qualitative longitudinal study to be funded in the UK, involving five universities. Your Space now continues as an independent project funded by the ESRC.

The Your Space study documents and tracks the meanings, experiences and flows of prescribed (sibling) and chosen (friendship) relationships for children and young people, and how these relate to their sense of self as their individual and family biogaphies unfold. As part of the ESRC’s Timescapes qualitative longitudinal study, the lives of around 50 young people have been followed for the past eight years. The data gathered is available for secondary analysis through the Timescapes archive.

Ros Edwards was director of the Your Space project and a co-grant holder of the Timescapes study as a whole. Your Space now continues as an independent project located at London South Bank University, headed by Susie Weller, and with Ros Edwards as consultant.

Funding: £3,890,000 for Timescapes, February 2007–January 2012.
