RYA Powerboat

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) National Powerboat Scheme is aimed at craft of up to about 33ft/10m and without a galley or toilet on board. The qualifications gained from within this scheme are recognised around the world and some are relevant to those driving commercially.

Southampton Sport are proud to offer all of the Powerboating courses including Level 1/2, Intermediate Day Cruising, Advanced Day and Night and Safety Boat. All 2-day Powerboat courses are booked through the Jubilee Sports Centre Reception as well as via our online store. We also offer opportunities to have one-to-one training sessions with one of our seasoned instructors when you wish to build on your skills.

All RYA Powerboat training courses will meet at the University Watersports Centre and will run from either the Watersports Centre, our training facilities at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, or in the case of the Safety Boat courses, our training base at Southampton Sailing Club.  All courses run across two days and certificates will be issued from the "University of Southampton" RYA Recognised Training Centre.

Informative [course]. Method of tuition very friendly and encouraging. A very enjoyable experience.

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. This course is usually taught in our 6.5m Gemini RIBs.
