Dr David Angland
Associate Professor in Aeroacoustics and Aerodynamics

Dr David Angland is an Associate Professor in Aeroacoustics and Aerodynamics within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton. He is also the head of the Airbus Noise Technology Centre since 2015.
My first degree was in aeronautical engineering at the University of Limerick. I then studied for my MSc at Cranfield University, under the supervision of Prof John L Stollery. My thesis was entitled "Fin/Body Interaction at Hypersonic Speeds" and involved experiments at Cranfield University's Gun Tunnel facility at Mach numbers of up to 8.2.
I came to the University of Southampton in 2003 to study for my PhD "Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics of Flap Side-Edges", under the supervision of Prof Xin Zhang. My research focused on low speed flows and aeroacoustics and involved experiments in the low speed R J Mitchell wind tunnel. I stayed at the University as a post-doctoral researcher looking at assessing and developing blowing flow control methods for landing gear noise reduction.
I was appointed as a Lecturer in 2012 and as an Associate Professor in 2016. My research is in aeroacoustics and aerodynamics. Aeroacoustics is an area of research with high impact due to the economic, political and environmental aspects of aerodynamically generated noise. I have strong industrial links and I have worked with consortia from all over Europe. My research is both experimental and numerical in nature.
