Large numbers of cleavers and handaxes, have been found on the surface through field walking. Our preliminary excavations suggest a possible buried fluvial channel network leading into the larger bay on the island. Given the potential for a ‘dry' northern Aegean in the Earlier and Middle Pleistocene the site may have a significant role to play in exploring new and previously unrecognised routes for hominin migration into Europe.
