Module overview

The Global Contexts and Systems module explores the complex relationships between economic, socio-political, cultural, technological, and environmental systems that shape our world and our interactions with it. Guided by frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, UNESCO global policy, decolonial perspectives and environmental issues, this module encourages critical thinking and contextual awareness. Contemporary issues such as globalisation, climate change, migration, digital inequality, and the ethics of emerging technologies form key areas of exploration. The module equips you with the research skills to critically examine the role of infrastructure, governance, and systemic inequality while recognising the responsibility and potential impact of your own position within these contexts. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary understanding, enabling you to consider the social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of your field. You will be encouraged to reflect on your assumptions, values, and disciplinary norms, fostering the capacity to drive responsible and informed change.
