Strategies for Practice and Research
The Strategies for Practice and Research module introduces well-established scientific and creative research methodologies that have been widely employed by design scholars. This module aims to equip you with a robust research foundation to support strategic design innovation that contributes to change.
Aligned with design thinking, problem-solving, and (more-than) human-centred design principles, the module enables you to critically explore social challenges in today’s complex and globalised societies. You will learn to apply professional research methods to develop a strategic methodology to gather information, refine research questions, validate findings, and develop credible while meaningful design outcomes that respond to real human needs and values.
Key concepts such as inclusive design, service design, sustainable design, system design, design for behaviour change, ethical design and justice design will be explored to expand your design scope and knowledge horizon, integrated with qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, visual, and applied research approaches.
By the end of the module, you will be well-prepared to engage in interdisciplinary, innovative, and critically informed design research, developing your research, communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills needed for the global creative industries and academic institutions. -
