Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Leadership
Sustainable entrepreneurship is a rapidly growing movement and it has attracted an increasing attention locally, nationally and globally in recent years. Numerous international institutions such as international organisations (e.g. United Nations, World Bank), world-class universities, governments, public agencies, private corporations and entrepreneurial firms are paying attention to the phenomenon of sustainability and any entrepreneurial and leadership processes that underpin bringing sustainable business solutions to small or large-scale societal and/or environmental solutions. The central driver for sustainable entrepreneurship is the environmental/social problem being addressed in an innovative and sustainable way, with an objective to embed all pillars of sustainability (i.e. economic, social and environmental) in building and leading the business. Such sustainability focus and impact creating activity can occur within or across the organisations and sectors. A wide range of employers are increasingly seeking individuals that can apply entrepreneurial and leadership solutions to sustainability matters.
There is an urgent need for competent individuals who can design novel solutions to most profound societal, environmental and business challenges. This module is designed to equip you with such skills and develop competencies in order to generate alternative economic and social practices and frameworks to address such sustainability challenges. These might include social enterprises, collaborative innovation networks, hubs, digital platforms and support intermediaries. The emphasis is on developing entrepreneurial skills and leadership frameworks underpinned required to create and lead a scalable sustainable business, collaborative network for sustainability purposes as well as transforming global organisations from a sustainable entrepreneurship and leadership angle. You will be motivated to develop yourself as sustainability-driven laeders/entrepreneurs and change agents, if that’s your chosen path.
You will learn the role that sustainable entrepreneurship play in society as change agents and the key challenges that they face in their work; and examine leadership, organisational and structural aspects of sustainable entrepreneurship. The module will enable you to have a deeper examination of the theoretical and practical foundations of sustainable entrepreneurship and leadership. At the same time, it provides unique access to an expanding learning community (guest speakers, practising sustainable entrepreneurs, researchers in the field) to engage and collaborate with. -
