She is the neurology stream lead in the Physiotherapy programme and is responsible for organizing and delivering the neurology programme across the BSc and MSc (accel) course.

How much of the decrease in function seen following a neurological event is down to disuse? And can we help this?

Jo’s clinical and published expertise is in neurology, particularly specializing in multiple sclerosis, stroke and ME. She still works clinically and enjoys integrating her clinical skills within the teaching environment. Jo has been involved with designing video resources to aid with teaching, and to help the students practice skills with case studies.

Jo has been involved with some research looking at fatigue management in MS, she has been involved on a project looking at expert patients as teachers, and is very interested in the effects of deconditioning and its effects on physical function following neurological insult.

Jo is the physiotherapy link with Practise and liaises with clinical supervisors to ensure they are appropriately skilled to take the students on placement and to keep a good breadth of experiences for the students. She arranges appropriate training, has regular meetings with supervisors and placement coordinators, and tries to ensure all students are suitably placed to ensure hey have a broad clinical portfolio when qualifying.
