Dr Richard Giordano joined the Health Sciences in 2005 as Senior Lecturer and programme lead for the MSc in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care. He has held academic and research positions at Birkbeck, Brown University, MIT, and the University of Manchester, following his immediate appointment prior to Southampton as Senior Consultant in Leadership Development at the King’s Fund. Richard's expertise and teaching broadly includes informatics, work practice and information processing, decision making, evaluation, and organizational development. His current research is focused on healthcare informatics, particularly analysis and design theories, implementation, and the effect of digital information on work practice and sense making in organisational settings. He says "All of this might sound dry and technical. It isn’t. I focus on people: What people do, why they do it, how they do it, and what it means to them."

Accessing knowledge and information isn’t enough. It’s knowing what it means and what to do with it that matters.
