Essence of care benchmarking' has been introduced into the NHS to improve quality of care. The feasibility of introducing benchmarking into residential homes has not been tested. This study aimed to examine the potential of benchmarking for residential homes with a focus on bowel care.

Methodology

Quantitative and qualitative comparison of residential homes using benchmarking with residential homes that do not.

Main outcomes

Faecal incontinence episodes. Carer and patient perspectives of bowel care.
