Shepuya Famwang is a Teaching Fellow in Digital Media at the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. Her research interest is at the intersection of journalism, communication and politics. Her current research is focused on the visual politics of images from contemporary war sites. She is also interested in the visual political communication of ethnic minority social media influencers. Additionally, she is interested in the combination of Open-Source Intelligence and immersive media in narrating stories about conflict in Nigeria.
Shepuya has previously taught in the department of Communication and Journalism at Bournemouth University across undergraduate and postgraduate modules. She was a Guest Lecturer for the MA Multimedia Journalism module Media and Global Challenge. She was also a Visiting Lecturer on the MA Global Media Management at Winchester School of Art.
In 2024, she received funding from the ESRC to celebrate the Festival of Social Sciences. Alongside Omowonuola Okunnu, she organised a public-facing event to share their collaborative research on the digital activism and electioneering of female ethnic minorities in the UK. She currently runs the Research Methods Group in the Winchester School of Art.
Shepuya is a member of the African Politics Group and the Media and Politics Group in the Political Studies Association.
