About the Fermentation facilities

Our environmental biotechnology facilities include small scale anaerobic fermentation equipment and associated downstream processing capabilities. We use it to carry out research including the production of biofuels made from raw waste material.
 

Technical specification

  • 3 and 5 litre Applikon fermenters with bioconsoles
  • an AKTA cross-flow membrane filtration test rig
  • a Millipore flat plate cross-flow filtration system
  • a PALL reverse osmosis unit
  • a range of equipment for hybridisation studies and enzymes hydrolysis
  • Nikon E400 epifluoresecene microscope
  • Powerfuge pilot continuous centrifuge
  • freeze drier
  • homogeniser
  • YSI biochemical analyzer
  • high speed refrigerated bench centrifuge
