Maria works as a Senior Research Fellow for SHTAC.

Maria joined SHTAC in November 2014, as a member of the SHTAC health economics team. Prior to her current position Maria was part of the Academic Unit of Primary Care and Population Sciences and she also provided support and advice to clinical teams through the NIHR Research Design Service South Central and the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre, from 2010 to 2013.

Her current work includes: (i) contributing to Technology Assessment Reports (TARs) for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and (ii) participation as co-investigator in clinical trials and primary research. Her TAR projects include assessing drugs to treat juvenile idiopathic arthritis and drugs to treat chronic hepatitis C. Her primary research portfolio mainly includes studies for children funded by NIHR (Programme Grants for Applied Research, Health Technology Assessment, Research for Patient Benefit) and Wellcome Trust. Maria has experience conducting economic evaluations alongside clinical trials, cross-sectional/longitudinal studies and individual/cohort modelling techniques. Her methodological research interest lies on the economics of paediatric health, focusing on long-term economic implications of chronic disease, physical impairment and mental health.

Prior to joining the academia Maria had a long standing career in industry, she holds an MBA and a specialisation diploma in forecasting business economic magnitudes from The National and Capodistrian University of Athens. She also holds a license as consultant economist from The Economic Chamber of Greece.
