Dr John Gillett is Programme Leader Fine Art within Winchester School of Art at the University of Southampton.

John's background is in curatorship, and he was trained in exhibition organisation by the Arts Council of Great Britain. He has worked as Keeper of Art at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, and for many years as Director of The Winchester Gallery here at Winchester School of Art. He has written extensively about contemporary art and public art in particular.

He is a publication designer and practising artist, specialising in performance-based video and digitally controlled live animation. His research interest is in the application of educational, curatorial concerns in creative practice, and especially in the idea of the self-interpreting artwork.
