Hi, I'm Matt White and I studied BSc Sociology within Social Sciences: Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Southampton.

The facilities and staff at Southampton were superb. I was able to control which areas of Sociology I really wanted to learn about through a wide choice of different modules.

Q: Why did you choose to study at the University of Southampton?

Southampton was a no brainer for me. With not much of a clue about the world of university when studying my A levels, I looked up the university ranking tables and saw Southampton creeping its way up the list. Being close to my home in Bournemouth but just far away enough to move to, it was an ideal place to go and bring home the washing once a month. After attending the open day I could tell it was for me and from then I was sold.

Q: Why Sociology?

After establishing an interest in Sociology at A level, I thought it would be beneficial for me to develop this at the next level. Luckily for me, the facilities and staff at Southampton were superb and I was able to control which areas of Sociology I really wanted to learn about through a wide choice of different modules. If I could do my time again, I would definitely choose Southampton.

Q: How did you find student life in Southampton?

Student life at Southampton is brilliant and can be as immersive as you want it to be. Being a keen sportsman, there are a lot of teams to play for and new sports to try out. The grounds were great also – as long as it didn't rain! When it comes to socials, you are spoilt for choice for clubs.

I met some great friends and became even more independent and confident through university. I'm now in a full-time job as a property negotiator.
